Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Chinese
medicine works on holistic principles, seeing the organism as one
complete
system, and therefore focuses on restoring balance to the system,
relieving
blockages and strengthening weak elements where necessary. The
following
methods are offered as part of a treatment, where applicable. Acupuncture involves the use of fine,
sterile,
single-use needles into certain ‘acu-’points on
different parts of the body.
After an initial, in-depth consultation, the points will be decided
based on
the information given. It is generally painless, although some brief
discomfort, tingling, pulling, cold/hot/electric sensations may be
experienced.
Some gentle massage may be used prior to acupuncture to aid treatment. Moxibustion This is the use of the herb
Mugwort (Artemisia
Vulgaris). It
is burned, either on top of a needle, on an individual point
or over points, channels or areas of the body in a rolled stick, like a
cigar.
It encourages circulation, and provides warmth, which can strengthen
the body
in certain conditions. It may be used in conjunction with acupuncture
and in
rare cases as a treatment by itself. Cupping A vacuum is created in a glass
cup
using a flame, which is then quickly applied to a part of the body,
most
commonly the back or shoulders. This lifts the skin, adipose and deeper
tissues, loosening the area in a similar way to massage and improving
circulation
to the local area. This can be used as part of your acupuncture
treatment, or
sometimes as a treatment by itself. It will cause some bruise-like
marking, but
this will pass in 2-3 days.

Osteopathy Structural Osteopathy is a holistic therapy that deals with problems in the muscles and joints. In particular, it looks at finding restrictions in joints and releasing these restrictions using manipulative and non-manipulative techniques. Visceral Osteopathy is a form of treatment that encourages the release of restrictions within viscera in the abdomen and pelvis. As tissue tensions are released the viscera or organs are allowed to move with greater freedom and return to their equilibrium positions thus restoring normal function. Visceral manipulation has been used to treat conditions such as poor digestion and aid the release of pelvic muscle contraction. Cranio-sacral Therapy Is a gentle treatment which corrects imbalances in the fluid which surrounds the brain and spinal cord. When combined with other osteopathic methods this gentle treatment can be used to treat neuralgia, neck pain and joint problems. Hot Oil & Hot Stones Treatments use heat to relieve muscular tension. The heated medium has the effect of penetrating through the superficial layers of skin and muscle to allow deep seated adhesions and restrictions to be released. This treatment can also be combined with Cranio-sacral Treatment. One hour
